National Institute of Technical Education of Sri Lanka ( NITESL ) was established in 1983 as the National Technical Teacher Training College (NTTTC) and it was renamed as the National Institute of Technical Education (NITE) in 1994. The Institute became a statutory body in the year 1999 as the National Institute of Technical Education of Sri Lanka (NITESL) under the Parliamentary Act No. 59 of 1998.
NITESL shall develop a demand driven skilled workforce of an international standard adaptable to the fast developing technologies consequent to globalization and a tariff free market converting the unskilled low-income labour force of Sri Lanka by adopting new strategies in training of trainers and curriculum development.
